Client Trip Reviews

9 nights British Columbia, Canada
May, 2006

By Joanna Cohlan

Joanna traveled with her husband and father to Calgary and drove to Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper.

Room at the Best Western Newark Airport the night before our early morning flight felt very dingy as did the entire hotel. However, the parking package that allowed us to park for free while we were on our trip was worth one night.

Flights were great on Delta-Car was great with Hertz-however, I wish we had a nonstop flight via AirCanada as opposed to having the connection. It would have been much more convenient with an 85 year old man with us and even alone.

Irwin's Mountain Inn in Banff was fine-great having two rooms like a suite. It was clean, convenient and very comfortable.

Num Ti Jah Lodge was fabulous-loved it-very rustic but interesting and homey-no television or telephones just for R and R. Restaurant was fabulous there.

The Quilter's Inn B&B in Canmore was great. People were lovely, very clean and spacious and reasonable-the entire basement is done as a B&B and the hosts were terrific.

Banff was fun-lots to do-great walks, wonderful scenery and fabulous restaurants. Also, good museum on the Indians and the hot springs and spa are fabulous. 3 nights was plenty and actually perfect. One night at Num Ti Jah Lodge would have been fine-then two nights in Jasper. I would only stay at the Fairmont if I went to Jasper again-everything else is dumpy and motel like or unregulated bed and breakfasts in Jasper. I think the trip should have been 7 days instead of 9. Less to do in Jasper than in Banff-however, the drive up the Bow Parkway is incredible with gorgeous views and wildlife.

Also, I think taking the train from Jasper to Vancouver is something that you should recommend to people. In general it was a very quiet trip-we love to hike so it was GREAT for us. I would not recommend it for an 85 year old because there is not much more to do than hike and eat.
