Holland America's Westerdam
Feb 13-20, 2005

By Hoagi Koster

Hoagi and his wife, Kathleen are in the 50-60 age category.

The Vista ships are very modern and have cut down on open space due to the verandah cabins. There have been lots of upgrades and our favorite are the beds - comfortable mattresses. We cruise Holland America almost exclusively so we can tell you the changes: they charge extra for things like the coffee shop, steam room and aqua spa pool. We didn't feel they were as well staffed on this particular sailing - we didn't know our cabin steward's name this time and our room didn't get made up 'till noon.

The dining staff is still good. The midnight buffets were not well attended and the food variety not as wide on the buffets.

We thought Tulum, near Cancun was a good value. Cozumel seemed touristy. On Little Cayman the scuba is fantastic.

We know someone named Ed Morris at Pirate's Point on Little Cayman. He rents condos. I think his email is eglitcay@condo.ky - might interest someone.
