Riu Resort Paradise Island, Bahamas

By Crystal Young

Crystal and her boyfriend traveled to Paradise Island in March, 2005. They are in the 20-30 age category.

The Riu Hotel is a bargain for its price range and your sure to have a great time. The hotel is all inclusive, it provides food throughout the day and free drinks. The location couldn't be better with the hotel literally right on the beach. The rooms are basic, but each room has a balcony with an ocean view, however a good rule to keep in mind regarding the balconies is that the odd numbered rooms face the pool, which can be loud and active whereas the even rooms face trees, being considerably quieter. The rooms also have a mini bar of liquor, beer and soft drinks which is replenished every two days.

Specifically, the food quality tends to vary between meals. Breakfasts and dinners at the main dining area, the Atlantic, are very good buffets, the lunch however, is not the greatest. The hotel has three restaurants, "Japanese", "Gourmet", and "Steakhouse" that provide a good alternative to the usual buffet style. The only drawback with the restaurants is that you must make reservations and you must make them very early in the morning. By 6:30 am a line builds up in the main lobby, waiting for an associate to begin to take reservations at 7 am, not the most efficient setup. Or you can opt for the dinner buffet which does not require a reservation.

Its not hard to find something to do outside the hotel. The beach is a quick little stroll where you can enjoy the most important part of the Bahamas, the beautiful blue ocean. Inside the hotel, tourist agents provide information and booking of the many activities that can be done throughout the Nassau area and the outlying islands from snorkel trips, to tours of the city, to trips to uninhabited islands.

So overall we had a great stay without complaint. Except for entertainment the hotel provides all that one needs to have a great vacation and we recommend it.
