Linda and her husband and two girls, ages 14 and 7 booked a 2 night stay at the Best Western of Lake George from Feb 28-March 2, 2003. They were looking for a family getaway on a 'not too peak' weekend, avoiding the President's Week Holiday.
Hi Diana. We are having a wonderful time here. This has been a very relaxing stay. Our room is large with two double beds. The ceiling is arched and is made of wood - beautiful.
I would rate this hotel an 8 out of a possible 10. We thought the room would have a refrigerator but they aren't standard and if we wanted one for the kids' drinks, etc, it would cost an additional $10/day. The only other disappointment was the arcade room is just a little alcove with two games. It's where the ice machine is. Not too impressive.
But the indoor pool is very nice. It's kidney shaped and there's a Jacuzzi, too. Near the pool, in the hotel lobby, is a concession area with all you can eat muffins, danish, fruit, coffee and juice.
It's very convenient and FREE all day long! They even have tables with beach umbrellas and lounge chairs.
We were looking forward to the tanning bed they advertised in their hotel description. The hotel gave us directions to get there but it was at night and we couldn't find it. We found a less expensive one anyway so it didn't matter. We went to Flex Appeal Fitness Center where your first tanning session was only $4.00 and it was even closer to our hotel than the one they recommended.
We've been to Lake George quite often and find the Log Jam Restaurant to be a good family-style eatery. They have a nice salad bar. Restaurants don't close in the winter so you can do some culinary testing while you're there.
The Best Western had a snowmobile trail right on the premises. You can tow your snowmobile into their parking lot and while the family is relaxing at the indoor pool you guys can go out and knock your socks off! Lake George also has something called Winter Carnival which consists of different events during the month of February. They have golf tournaments (yes, you heard me right) and football games on the lake. There's plenty of shopping at the outlet stores, museums, a haunted house and indoor arcades (better than the one at the Best Western, trust me). You can go parasailing in the winter. Paul tried that one year. I did mine in the fall. Much more rational.
Lake George is a great place for families. The Best Western of Lake George is right off the NY State Thruway and is convenient to everything. They can provide a crib or rollaway, if you need it.
We were going to go horseback riding but found out that all the horses are vacationing in Florida at that time of year. We'll just have to go back in the spring. I just hope they're not to sunburned to put a saddle on!
